Proactive Counselling

“Be proactive not reactive, for an apparently insignificant issue ignored today can spawn tomorrow's catastrophe.” - Ken Poirot

Life ain’t easy in a crazy world

We live in a society that is driving us to dis-ease. Life is constantly changing, we can be impacted by the many transitions and changes we encounter and experience, for instance issues at work or school, social pressures, relationship issues, economic difficulties, and other factors beyond our control.

Proactive counselling: What is it?

Proactive counselling is the idea that we work together to resolve a problem before it becomes a real issue. I believe that together we can work through the issues that are holding you back. I encourage you to take charge and engage in counselling earlier. Don’t wait until you’re in a crisis. I like to think of crisis counselling as moving from surviving to living and proactive counselling moving from living to thriving.

I firmly believe that we have the greatest personal growth when we actively seek help for the issues we face. Through working with me not only should you be able to highlight or pinpoint the root cause of your concerns or problems but we will also work together to create ways to develop your strengths which helps you to not only fully overcome the initial concern or problem but also provide you with the foundation you need to move forwards in life in general.

Imagine. We treat our phones better than we treat ourselves. The moment we notice the battery is low we immediately look for a charger whereas when it comes to our mental health we can ignore our own body’s low battery then we’re surprised when we run out.

If you invest in your own mental health on an ongoing basis you can build the resilience you need to stay operating at full power for longer.

What would I even talk about if I don't have a crisis?

You could talk about anything. I encourage clients to bring in a list of topics they would like to focus on that pertain to what is occurring in their life currently.

Some ideas are listed below:

  • Your relationship with your partner/family/friends
  • Life/work balance
  • Coping skills for dealing with anxiety and stress
  • Building self-esteem and confidence
  • Communication
  • Planning for the future

I am curious about what you think, feel or want to say. And will listen with respect, interest, fascination and without interruption. I believe that together we can make work through the issues that are holding you back to become your best self and find inner peace, healing and happiness.

Proactive counselling can be done at your own pace because it is proactive! I recommend starting out at a fortnightly pace and seeing how quickly you reach your goals. Reassessing after every month.

I aim to keep it simple; to create a confidential, judgement free environment where you feel comfortable to talk about the things you didn’t think you could talk about, explore the things you didn’t believe you could face and find solutions and strengths you didn’t know you had.

If it sounds like you would like to work with me or would like to find out a bit more; I welcome you to call or email me to arrange a free 15 minute no obligation telephone call.

Don’t take your mental and emotional health for granted!
